Swan Lake

May 11, 2017

I won the stamp set, Swan Lake, in a prize patrol at On Stage last November. It isn’t really a set I’d normally buy so I challenged myself to come up some different ways to use the stamps.

This was the first card I made:

Card: Bermuda Bay, Whisper White, vellum scrap;
Stamp Pads: Archival – Basic Black, Versamark, Soft Sky, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Old Olive, Melon Mambo, Perfect Plum, So Saffron, Daffodil Delight;
Stamps: Swan Lake, Butterfly Basics;
Other: Copper embossing powder, blender pen, thick baker’s twine, copper metallic thread, basic rhinestone

My second card was this one, using the lovely Delicate Details lace stamp from Sale-a-brations. I’m not sure what the technique I used is called but it gives a 3D effect. First I stamped the lace in Whisper White craft ink, then over-stamped it – just slightly to one side – with Crumb Cake ink. I think this technique works so well with the lace stamps.

Card: Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White;
Stamp Pads: Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White Craft, Crumb Cake;
Stamps: Swan Lake, Delicate Details (SAB), Thoughtful Banners;
Other: Layering Ovals framelits, Stampin’ Write markers – Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Daffodil Delight, Wisteria Wonder, Blushing Bride, Pool Party, Soft Sky, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede

I have some more cards from this set to post in a couple of days.

Painted Petals & Butterfly Basics – Convention Swaps

May 25, 2015

I really enjoyed going to Convention at the Gold Coast at the beginning of this month. Life had been rather hectic and I only decided a few days before that I’d make some cards for swaps, so I didn’t want to choose anything too complicated to make. I decided on a variation of the fold over window card I’d made for a class, but used a couple of different stamps sets and different colours – they really didn’t take too long to make and because of the different stamps and colours I didn’t get bored with them like I sometimes have in previous years! I only had time to make 35, but it was the perfect number, and I received some lovely card swaps in return.

I made several of these (I had to get creative with two different orientations because I thought I had run out of Crumb Cake card – I found the whole pack I thought I’d ordered after I’d finished them!):

Card: Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke
Stamp Pads: Mossy Meadow, Crumb Cake
Stamps: Butterfly Basics, Gorgeous Grunge
Other: Circles Framelits

I used the beautiful Painted Petals stamps for my other swaps, in various colours:

(These were actually done with Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry markers, but must have picked up some of the red stain on the stamps, because they came out this rather pretty apricot shade!)

Card: Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Elegant Eggplant/Perfect Plum/Blackberry Bliss/Daffodil Delight
Stamp Pads: Crumb Cake, Elegant Eggplant/Rich Razzleberry/Soft Suede
Stamps: Painted Petals, Butterfly Basics
Other: Framelits – Circles Collection, Stampin’ Write markers – Pear Pizzazz, Perfect Plum & Elegant Eggplant/Rich Razzleberry & Blackberry Bliss/Daffodil Delight & Crushed Curry

Various other colour combinations with the Painted Petals stamp:

Card: Whisper White, Real Red/Pool Party/Crumb Cake/Sahara Sand
Stamp Pads: Crumb Cake/Sahara Sand/Pool Party
Stamps: Painted Petals, Butterfly Basics/Wetlands
Other: Framelits – Circles Collection, Stampin’ Write markers – Pear Pizzazz, Real Red & Cherry Cobbler

Card: Very Vanilla, Melon Mambo, Soft Sky/Crumb Cake
Stamp Pads: Melon Mambo/Pool Party
Stamps: Painted Petals, Butterfly Basics/Wetlands/Itty Bitty Banners
Other: Framelits – Circles/Ovals Collection, Stampin’ Write markers – Pear Pizzazz, Blushing Bride & Melon Mambo

Fold Over Window Card and Mossy Ferns

May 18, 2015

A couple of last month’s class cards. I used the fern stamp from the Butterfly Basics set (I love this set; it is so versatile) and three generations of stamping to get the right effect for this card – a quick and easy card but very effective:

Card: Naturals Ivory, Mossy Meadow
Stamp Pads: Mossy Meadow
Stamps: Butterfly Basics

The inspiration for this next card came from US demonstrator, Dawn Olchefske. I used Dawn’s idea for the card, but changed the measurements to suit our (Australian) cardstock size and changed it a little to eliminate a layer and make it less bulky to mail.

Card: Soft Sky, Whisper White, Crisp Cantaloup, Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz
Stamp Pads: Crumb Cake, Marina Mist, Crisp Cantaloup
Stamps: Itty Bitty Banners
Other: Bird Builder punch, Woodgrain embossing folder, Framelits – Ovals Collection & Bitty Banners

Perpetual Birthday Calendar Stamps – Autumn Leaves

May 15, 2015

Another couple of class cards; this one uses the lovely autumn leaves fro the Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set:

Card: Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie
Stamp Pads: Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red
Stamps: Perpetual Birthday Calendar, Sassy Salutations
Other: Ovals Framelits

I used the pretty Spring Flowers embossing folder for this card:

Card: Very Vanilla, Kraft
Stamp Pads: Baked Brown Sugar, Pear Pizzazz, Strawberry Slush, Cherry Cobbler, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant, Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry
Stamps: Flower Patch, Butterfly Basics
Other: Framelits – Flower Fair & Ovals Collection, Spring Flowers embossing folder, rhinestones

Bokeh & Emboss Resist Techniques

February 23, 2015

Two different techniques for the other two cards from my January class!

I first saw the Bokeh Technique here on Dawn Olchefske’s blog and thought it would make a great background for the beautiful new butterfly thinlits from the Occasions catalogue:

Card: Whisper White, Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum, Brushed Gold
Stamp Pads: Marina Mist, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White Craft
Stamps: Butterfly Basics
Punches: 1 1/4″ circle, 1″ circle, 3/4″ circle, 1/2″ circle
Other: Thinlits – Butterflies, window sheet

The second card uses the emboss resist technique:

Card: Whisper White, Melon Mambo
Stamp Pads: Pink Pirouette, Melon Mambo, Rose Red, Versamark
Stamps: Flowering Flourishes, Butterfly Basics
Other: Decorative Label punch, clear embossing powder
